Picasso Self Portraits
Our Picasso Portraits were created with inspiration from Picasso's "Self Portrait" and his movement of cubism. Students were shown examples of Picasso's work and given a brief description of his life and of cubism. Students were then given guides to different face shapes, eyes, noses, mouths and pattern styles for inspiration and to get them started. Students were then given the freedom to create their own self portraits and coloured using a mood of their choosing, so they were to pick colours that would depict a mood. (KSA 3)
Fireworks - Colour Explosion
Our fireworks displays were created using mixed media (Epsom salt, white glue, and watercolour paints). We also watched a fireworks display video before beginning so students could observe a real event for inspiration in order to think about the colours used, the designs used, and to consider depth and perspective. Students enjoyed the video and by providing a visual it helped students who had never seen fireworks before, or for students who needed a visual for inspiration and ideas. After watching the video students were excited to begin their works of art. (KSA 3 & 5)
Lego-mania Patterns
This is the beginning of our Lego-mania patterns. Students were given a Lego character outline and a sheet with various patterns and designs for inspiration, as well as step by step designs so students could learn more complex patterns and continue working on fine motor skills as well. Students were to fill in their Lego characters with a variety of patterns and designs that would draw the eye in and create a focal point. (KSA 3)
