Class Website
I created a class website where students could find all of the lessons and supporting documents. This worked well for if students needed a resources after school they were able to find it at home. It also allowed students to catch up if they had missed any classes. It made it so information was always accessible and parents were also able to stay involved in students learning. It was used to help students take ownership of their learning and to have a single resource for them to do so.

Daily Whiteboard Questions
Each day I would put a question on the whiteboard for students to answer as they came into the classroom. It provided an opportunity for students to share their thoughts and ideas and to get to know each other, as well as a point of discussion for students. It was very popular with the students and they began to create their own questions for each other to answer if I had missed putting a question up before they started arriving to class. Students from other classes began to join in and contribute to the whiteboard conversation, while some students were eagerly awaiting each morning to come in before class to see what the question of the day was. Students really enjoyed having this at the beginning of class and helped to build a positive classroom environment.

Behaviour Reflection
Students who exhibited inappropriate, disrespectful, or disruptive behavior were given a warning (name on the board) in order to try and better their decisions for the remainder of class. If they struggled to do so then I would have them stay in after class and fill in a behavior reflection form. This provided the student an opportunity to reflect on their behavior and how is affects their learning and the learning of other students in the class. It also gave me an opportunity to talk with them on a personal basis about their behavior and to review expectations. The second time they had to fill out a form they had to take it home to have their parents sign. I found that at this age level it worked well as most didn't want to have their parents find out about their behavior and were quick to focus after an initial warning.

Parent E-mails and Communication
I strongly believe that students grow leaps and bounds when we focus on the things that they do well and on the moments where they put their best foot forward. I believe in focusing on the positive things that students are doing in class and recognizing them for the moments where they are excelling. To reinforce this idea I would e-mail home with a friendly note letting parents know when a student had an exceptional day by working hard, contributing to class, or did something that I felt was a great improvement. I feel that students we more susceptible to this type of positive reinforcement as they were able to see the positive repercussions not only at school, but at home as well.
