My Professional Inquiry Project was based on incorporating literacy into the Social Studies curriculum by using an interactive notebook. This allowed students to keep all of their information and notes in one place, while helping them stay organized. It was also a place where study, reading and summarizing tips could be included as a reference. It provided another alternative way for students to engage with the content and to stay organized. Overall, this worked very well and students a benefit in its use. Using this type of tool pushed me to find different ways for students to interact with the curriculum, to take notes, and to incorporate a variety of learning strategies for students. I had to research different templates and come up with different ways for students to interact with their notebooks. It helped me further develop my literacy skils and teaching students not only course content, but also ways to interact with materials in order to help them comprehend the information given. It also provided an independent study tool for students. I hope to continue to use this type of notebook in the future and to continue coming up with ways to help students interact with the curriculum.
