Teaching students about the Fur Trade in Alberta is a complex topic in grade 4, so I decided to create a way for students to work collaboratively together, to learn about a variety of people and places who are important to the development of Alberta, and to skim for research information in a fun and interactive way. I created a Fur Trade-Opoly board game with property cards that provided information about the people and places they had been learning about in which they would then record the important information in their research booklets. I chose this method as after getting to know the students I realized that they needed a different way to get their information in order to enhance their learning (KSA 5 & 6) so students were given the option to either participate in the game or they could work independently with just the property cards and could sort through the information in order to get the research they needed for their research booklets. I felt that this worked best as students were given an option based on how they felt they worked best and for what they needed in order to achieve success.
